A strong earthquake was recorded at 9:18 p.m. PDT on Sunday night in the Pacific Ocean near northern California, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The 6.9-magnitude temblor hit about 50 miles west of Eureka, Calif., at a depth of 4.3 miles.
There were no early signs of a tsunami.
USGS seismologist Susan Hoover told The Associated Press that more than 300 people reported feeling the quake on their website.
